Finding a Website Niche

Most new webmasters struggle to find their website niche. They find it the hardest part associated with web creation since it needs a lot of thinking and choosing the right thing to work with.

Once you find your niche and start working on it for a while, it is quite difficult to go back and start working on something else. After all we all hate to waste our time and money. So it is best to stay on the right track from the beginning.

Like most new webmasters, I have also had difficulties in the past to figure it out. I think this is a struggling process especially for new comers to find their niche business online.

Most people do not entirely realize what a website niche really is and why it is so important.

A website niche is merely a market research within a market niche. For example a market niche is the research for your main idea and a website niche is the research within your main idea.

So let’s take an example of my site – my niche is how to create a website and when I go deep into it, my sub-niches are domain name, web hosting, online marketing and etc. There is nothing on my site that talks about anything other than web creation.

So when you are building a small business website like mine, you must be as specific as possible. Remember you are not building the next Yahoo. So adding up too many niches on your website would not give you a good ranking in the search engines.

Because when there are too many niches associated with your website, search engines will get confused and they won’t be able to give you any targeted traffic.

Find a niche -- step #1: Get related keywords:

When I think of any useful tool that really helps you to find related keywords on your niche, the first name that comes in mind is SiteSell’s Brainstorming Tool.

I am not trying to promote SBI here just because I am trying to earn my affiliate commission here.

The reason I do mention SBI so much is because I have personal experience with it. I have used many other tools paid and free ones but SBI is the simply the best.

I have also used Market Samurai and I do admit that Market Samurai is a great tool but when it comes to compare with SBI in terms of cost, easiness, tutorial and etc. Site Build It is far better.

As you can see this screenshot is taken from my SBI brainstorming tool. As you see that it gives the number of keywords as well as the demand, competition and the profitability measure.

Although these numbers are not 100% accurate since the software use an algorithm like the search engines to deliver the data but gives a pretty solid idea where you are heading with your business.

Wordtracker Free keyword tool is a great free tool allows you to find profitable keywords as well. But again since it’s free, they do not give you any information on the competitors or the profitability margin.

Nichebot Classic : Although I have never tried it so I cannot give much of a review on it but from what I read on their website. It gives you the keyword from their catalogue and it’s not updated. And also the price is super expensive as well, the premium version cost about 108$ per month.

This is why I always suggest SBI since it is really inexpensive compare to what you will be getting out of it.

Find a niche -- step #2: Where to start if you don’t know where to start:

If you don’t find any idea that what topic you want to investigate firstly, you need a way to perk up a few hypotheses for you to check out.

Here is some easy work which you can do without any difficulty. Pixel fast is used by me for this instance. This time you need to type in single huge-ranging word like…

• cure

• remove

• find

• build

• fix

• Solution

• Problem

Or you can type in various words such as...

• How to

• set up

• get rid of

• learn about

Now that should give you some ideas for your website niche.

Some key points to remember are:

+ Write the simple title of the page.
+ Expend at to the lowest degree 50% of your time making titles and examining them.
+ Attempt to ask a question in the title if you can so that People need to experience answers.
+ Title should be well written, use YOU often instead of We.
+ Title should be keywords oriented and brief. Never use 25 words and more than that.
